Do you know any lazy people?

Lazy people who don’t want to take responsibility for themselves cause all the problems we face. Politicians in all Western countries turn to this story, putting the blame for financial struggles faced by most of us on the back of people who think they deserve everything handed to them on a plate.

We should all be furious at these people who don’t want to play their part in contributing to society. These people who just want to take, without offering anything in return. If they worked harder, they’d be fine, but instead they choose poverty and the humiliation of relying on charity to stay alive.

Just one thing. How many lazy people do you really know? And I mean really lazy, like the ones politicians describe who literally don’t want to do anything.

Of all the people I’ve ever known, I’ve never known anyone like that. And that’s not hyperbole. Sure, some people are less dynamic and less driven than others. But everyone I’ve known has responded positively when presented with a goal to aspire to. We all need purpose and the suggestion that huge numbers of us want to do nothing is absurd.

Without purpose, there’s no point getting up in the morning. Even if that means getting up for the kind of job that high and mighty politicians look down on, it still gives purpose. Because every job is essential. Employers wouldn’t pay people to do a job if it wasn’t. They’re not in the business of giving charity.

And it’s easy to pick on those suffering from health issues, physical and mental, that can’t play their part. But heaping blame on them is just another punishment on top of not being able to play their part. Because no-one wants to have to rely on the charity of others.

If you want to see lazy in action, stop looking around you and start looking up. At the bosses in corner offices who work short days and take “meetings” on the golf course. At the politicians who milk the system for their own gain. And at the fabulously wealthy who have made a career out of having more than they’ll ever need.

The poorest 50% of Americans have to struggle with just 2.5% of US wealth between them, while the wealthiest 10% have hoarded 68.3% of the country’s wealth. Yet for their privilege, it’s not enough to just watch the poorest Americans struggling to make it from pay check to pay check. They have to blame them too for not working hard enough and for choosing a life of poverty.

So, who’s really lazy?
